Overview and Key Concepts

Introduces the governing model for the open-sustainability Methodology. It introduces the scope of the approach and why it is necessary to meet the changing business and technology environments in many of todays organisations. open-sustainability introduces a mechanism for a comprehensive approach to Sustainable Development, which is defined and applied in the following manner:

  • To make the transition towards to Sustainability, many organisations will need to make a major transformation to a new model. In open-sustainability, the scope of the model is defined through a Conceptual Architecture and “Enterprise Views”. The Conceptual Architecture is focused on defining scope along solution capabilities; Enterprise Views apply to People, Process, Organisation, Technology and Strategy across the domains of Business Function and Process, Infrastructure and Information. At any point in methodology we can trace back to the Conceptual Architecture or Enterprise Views. The goal of FISDev is to introduce a Sustainability competency in all these areas.
  • There are many reasons for moving to this new model. Key Drivers provides throught process behind creating an open source and collaborative approach to Sustainable Development.
  • The open-sustainability Methodology is stored in various forms in distributed documents, tools and web content. In order to make this content flow together for the end-user, FISDev provides a model that organises the content and its relationships through the overall set of tasks and components in the architecture. The Content Model for FISDEV describes the different types of content and their relationships.
  • All FISDev content is housed within a collaboration framework. This framework is a key enabler for moving the methodology to a more effective model for sharing, building and improving content.

In summary, Overview and Key Concepts helps define the scope of the approach, the Content Model of the overall methodology and the Key Drivers behind the proposed approach. It provides an important lead-in to the Training section and in providing some introductory concepts before users start with the Overall Implementation Guide.
