Activity: Sustainability Assessment Awareness

Objective

This activity involves conducting a business risk assessment incorporating related sustainability risks and opportunities.

Sustainability risks and opportunities will vary for each organization according to their own operational footprint and that of their supply chain.

The risk of climate change is one that needs to be assessed for all organizations whether or not theirs is a real or perceived threat. All organizations to some degree will be affected both directly and via their supply chain.

Major Deliverables

  • Risk Assessment matrix
  • Prioritized list of risks and opportunities

Tasks

Sustainability Governance Council executive sponsorship of risk assessment

Objective: To ensure main stream adoption of the sustainability risk assessment SGC to provide executive leadership throughout the process.

Sustainability Working Group and Stewards provide organizational support

Objective: The SWG and Sustainability Stewards to provide support to ensure the people conducting the risk assessment have the correct level of understanding of the risks and opportunities relevant to their area.

Yellow Flags

  • The nature of risk assessments means that some results are subjective and quantitative
  • A low-level understanding of sustainability by risk assessors may determine an inappropraite ranking for a risk
